4 Easy Ways to Improve Your Window Displays

Does your store's window display lack any real sense of creativity and aesthetics? Conventional wisdom should lead you to believe that window display isn't going to have much of an effect on consumers' buying decision unless it captures their attention. Most shoppers will walk right by it without taking notice, negating all of the hard work and time you invested into it. So, how can you improve your window displays?

Color Matters

Don't underestimate the importance of using the right colors in your window displays. The right colors will not only capture the attention of shoppers and passer-bys, but it will also encourage them to purchase your products. According to the marketing experts at KISSMetrics, red denotes passion and urgency to buy, making it the ideal choice to use within a window display. Displaying a fiery-red dress draped over a mannequin, for instance, is sure to have a positive impact on your window display.

Change It Up

Try to get into the habit of changing your window displays at least once every other week. Even if it looks "perfect" right now, shoppers will eventually grow tired of seeing the same display time and time again, at which point it will have little-to-no effect on their buying decisions. Feel free to experiment with different products, layouts, color schemes, and other elements to see what works and what doesn't.

Perspective

When setting up new window displays, be conscious of shoppers' perspective and how they will view the display. In other words, face your mannequins, props, signage and other elements facing the area in which shoppers will most likely be. This is usually out towards the street, but if there's a corner nearby, you may want to adjust your display just slightly so it's facing towards the corner. This will improve its visibility, allowing more shoppers to see it. It's recommended that you set up your window display correctly the first time around, as this will save you time and energy (and lots of it) in the long run.

Keep It Clean

No matter how hard you try to prevent it, dust and dirt will inevitably accumulate on your mannequins. The good news is that small amounts of dust shouldn't cause any damage. The bad news is that it will take away from the visual appeal of your mannequins, making them less effective at capturing shoppers' attention. You can clean your mannequins by wiping them with a feather duster, and the glass window of your display can be cleaned using a standard ammonia-based glass cleaner.
